NEFCO

New England Fertilizer Company (now NEFCO) was created in 1986 as a core member of a team assigned to tackle one of this century’s biggest wastewater challenges – the clean-up of Boston Harbor. In 1988, the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority chose NEFCO from a pool of twenty-three applicants who responded to a Request for Proposals to manage sewage sludge disposal in the Greater Boston area thus ending the 115-year practice of discharging biosolids directly into Boston Harbor.
